
Advice for regular medical examination
Given the potential medical conditions of people with Williams syndrome, it is useful at a number of areas to be alert. Some health problems do not immediately complaints. Regular monitoring can lead to timely diagnosis. The more serious problems can occur later in life. These are not always to research by specialists. Also own GP can do a lot for example.
Monitoring by the general practitioner (pediatric) doctor:
Both children and adults with Williams syndrome is an annual inspection by the doctor to recommend. It must be attention to:
- Blood pressure in the arms and legs
- Routine examination of the urine
- Physical examination:
With special attention to possible problems in bones and joints (hips, knees, ankles, elbows and neck) and attitudes (including scoliosis). Sometimes referral to a physiotherapist meaningful.
- Cardiologist research:
All young children need after diagnosis by a pediatric cardiologist examined. At least once, a echocargiogram (ECG, heart tracing) to be made, even if there is (still) no clear evidence for a heart problem. - Determination of calcium in the blood:
