Diagnosis:
* Patients with this disorder are characterized by a constant state of hypervigilance and hyperactivity of the nervous system due to an unbalanced activity of neurotransmitters in the brain and is also a motor hyperactivity in the body.
* The disorder is more common in women than in men
* If there are no genetic or environmental reasons the disease is related to chronic stress.
* According to WHO, to consider that a patient has a “generalized anxiety disorder” should have the following symptoms most of the day for 2-3 consecutive weeks:
- Muscle tension manifested by headache, inability to relax, restlessness and sleeping difficulties
- Autonomic nervous system hyperactivity manifested by sweating, palpitations, upset stomach, difficulty in breathing and dry mouth

We can distinguish two major groups of causes of this disorder, first causes of generalized anxiety disorder and other causes of the episodes described as panic attacks or panic.
In the case of generalized anxiety disorder causes are not fully known but there are some factors that predispose to its development. Outstanding in this group, the individual’s genetic inheritance, brain neurotransmitters and environmental factors.

Symptoms of anxiety can manifest both in the physical (changes in normal physiological activity) and psychological level (changes in mood, thinking and behavior).
As experts say, on the physical level of anxiety is “the great simulator” because it can cause symptoms in all organs and body systems. And, the state of hypervigilance typical of anxiety activates the central and peripheral nervous system and autonomic nervous system and endocrine system and produces changes that are manifested in the form of various somatic symptoms.
