swimming: a complete sport

Well the saying that “water is health”, so doctors recommended swimming as therapy for some muscular injuries of the spine and to improve the quality of life for people with hypertension and diabetes, among others. What is the magic inherent in this exercise?

To motivate children and teenagers to go swimming are told, with good reason, that activity involves bringing all the muscles of the body, which promotes a comprehensive and balanced development. Moreover, and this is for any age, stimulates circulation, so that the blood carries more oxygen to the brain and whole body in general.

Swimming leads to other sports for two main reasons: the environment in which it is practiced and the kind of effort that is required. As done in the water counteracts the effect of gravity, making the joints do not bear the weight of the body and, therefore, that the work done to move smoother than walking or biking.

Water (especially if it is near 28 ° Celsius) also helps to have more joint mobility, promoting the pain in that part of the body disappear and the muscles to relax when there is contraction.

People with respiratory diseases such as allergies or asthma, are those who benefit directly from this exercise, because they can breathe moist environment, as well as moderate but steady effort to carry out the lungs.

Muscle water

To go swimming set in motion many of the muscles of the body, which we present below the most important, according to researcher Nestor Nieves Ariza July.

Sternocleidomastoid. Neck muscle whose function is to secure the head and give it movement. It is inserted into collarbone and sternum, and its auxiliary role in breathing.
Pectoralis major. Trunk muscle attaches to the clavicle, sternum and costal cartilages. Allows internal rotation of the arm and works at the entrance and exit of air to the lungs.
Rectus abdominis. Muscle that holds the position of the trunk and is involved in respiration.
Oblique and lower abdomen. Are fundamental breathing exercises, as well as assisting in the trunk flexion and movement.
Trapezius and rhomboids. Dan shoulder mobility.
Deltoid. Thanks to it to perform moves, lifting the arm.
Sartorio. Hip flexor.
Quadriceps. It is the most powerful muscle in the body and some others who depend for their particular functions.
Tibialis anterior. Flex your foot on the leg.
Buttock. Extensor of the thigh on the trunk and hip extensor.
Biceps femoris. Bend the leg on the thigh.
Twins. Extensors of the foot.

Remember, before the first dip, you must do a warming, heat a little muscle so the effort does not cause contractures or major problems. Now, get to the water!
