How It Works
Swedish massage uses oil to avoid friction with the skin. Ideally this oil should be warmed slightly before use. Movements have assets and liabilities. Use various moves and these are always against the movement, in other words towards the heart. This is done to stimulate circulation.
During Swedish massage the person who receives it usually is naked but sometimes if desired can be used underwear, but the person is always covered with a sheet and only the small area being massage at this time is exposed.
During the Swedish massage may have various combinations of movement therapists also sometimes move their arms, legs or head to move the joints. The following are classic movements of Swedish massage:
1 – Effleurage. Such movements are along the direction of the heart. Help calm the body, warm and relax muscles. It also helps distribute the oil in the body for the next moves. With this move the person receiving the massage is familiar with the “touch” massage.
2 – Petrissage. These movements are similar to the pin (as when making tortillas or pancakes). This increases circulation and deeply relaxing.
3 – Pressure points. This focuses on points where there is pain when pressed. Pain on pressure indicates stress and tension. It is mainly used to press your thumb.
4 – Friction deep. They are circular movements that relieve stress.
5 – Rollers. The therapist take a small area of skin and “pinch” lightly. As skin rolling.
6 – Tapotement (percussion or tapping). With the palms of the hands closed and the therapist gently curled pats on the back or other muscle. It helps to energize the body. It is usually near the end of massage.
7 – brushing his fingers. These movements are very soft and are used after a thorough massage. The therapist uses the tips of his fingers and slides on the body with gentle pressure. This helps to calm nerves and relax muscles.
The massage can last from 30-90 minutes.
