We all love our food, no doubt about that, but those of us who eat a lot of food are placing ourselves at high risk in the future if a lot of the food is high in cholesterol. Cholesterol related problems are to be avoided. The majority of us follow diets these days that are literally laden with high amounts of cholesterol both the good and the bad varieties. To avoid heart problems and to help maintain a healthy heart we simply must keep cholesterol levels within what is called the normal range. The best and easiest way to accomplish this is to maintain a record or keep track of the foods that we consume and do our utmost to stay away from those that we know are bad for us cholesterol wise.
It is a fact that the body does need a certain amount of good cholesterol to enable enactment of some basic processes but this can be produced by the body itself and does not have to rely on the intake of any food substances. What we need to do is eat healthier foods and assist our body in getting rid of the excess cholesterol.
So what foods should we shun from our daily diet? Some foods are excellent in helping to lower your cholesterol level for example avocados. However there are some that will indeed worsen the situation and make matters much worse. Foods here are those rich and saturated or trans fats. Surprisingly not all of these foods are greasy or fat even though they will be harmful. Always look at the nutritional label on any food packet. If it contains any amount however small of saturated or trans fat then it would be better left on the shelf.
Common foods that contain high levels of cholesterol are egg yolks, pure dairy products, internal meat organs and fatty meats. If you consider these foods and where they come from it is easy to work out that the ones with the highest fat and cholesterol content come from animals and animal by-products. This may of course be one reason why vegetarians have a much lower risk of suffering from cholesterol related illnesses and diseases than someone who has a diet of meat on a regular basis. However it is a fact that many vegetarians have high cholesterol so there is no hard and fast rule. Vegetarians are definitely not exempt from the problem.
Should you be one of the lucky ones who are not considered high risk for cholesterol problems you can still eat some high cholesterol foods but ensure it is only in moderation. Prevention is still advisable.
Finally a visit to your health care professional will help to find out if you are at risk and by how much. Natural supplements can also help. Regular checks are well advised if you feel you might be at risk.
