Less sugar to reduce the risk of breast cancer

The oncologist David Servan Schreiber already alerted us in his book Anticancer on the relationship between cancer cells and foods with high glycemic index (white flour, white rice, pastries, soft drinks, desserts).

A study by the Swedish Institute awarding the Nobel Prize for Medicine (Karolinska) reveals that the risk of developing breast cancer (but also colon) increases with eating “sweet” (slow or fast sugars) and probably other cancers as well.

To limit risk, and does not raise blood glucose and insulin in the blood, the oncologist recommends eating mostly whole grains and combined them (the fibers are our friends, they can reduce peak blood glucose and insulin, and also eliminates toxins. (more…)

Pregnancy, pollution will decrease the IQ of the unborn child

The pollution would be harmful to the child even before its release to the world. A French team has already shown a few months ago that polluted air during pregnancy could have a significant effect on the size of the child. A U.S. study has shown that pollution is harmful to brain development of fetuses. Exposed children aged 5 years then accuse a delay of a few IQ points compared with similar unexposed.

This study was performed on pregnant women and their children under the direction of Dr. Frederica Ferrara Columbia University. Pregnant women living in the most polluted neighborhoods in New York were followed by portable devices for measuring the air. Then, their children, once born, followed by pediatricians until age 5. The study discovered that children were most vulnerable are equipped with an IQ slightly lower (some points) to less exposed. This difference does not mean it will determine the future and affect the social and intellectual development of children. However, these results tend to prove once again the influence of environment and pollution including pregnancy and its likely impact on the future child. (more…)

Breast cancer and fertility

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women under 40 years, and therefore reproductive age. If during a testicular cancer or cancer of the ovaries or uterus, is thought systematically to lower fertility, nothing is proposed at a breast cancer to preserve ovarian function. But treatments like chemotherapy can induce amenorrhea (no rules) temporary or permanent or worse early menopause irreversible. Hormone therapy proposed for premenopausal women is tamoxifen, which is not held responsible for infertility. It is usually prescribed for 5 years as a contraceptive and even back then the possibility of pregnancy, which obviously poses problems for women close to forty. After treatment there are between 5 and 28% of spontaneous pregnancies is to say the risk is as important and major issue.

Today, when ovarian function is disrupted proposes some solutions:

* The use of egg donation – but legislation in France makes this technique extremely difficult to achieve because the gift is free, and very few women are willing to be donors. (more…)

Food sources of fiber

Groups of foods rich in fiber are (in descending order):

- Grain wheat bran and oat;
- Dried fruits (prunes, almonds, dried apricots, dried figs, raisins, dates …);
- Whole grain foods (pasta, rice, wheat, spelled, millet, quinoa, bulgur …);
- Legumes (beans and red kidney beans, lentils, split peas, bean sprouts, chick peas …);
- Vegetables (peppers, mushrooms, peas, parsley, spinach, sorrel, fennel, green beans, cabbage …);
- Fruits (raspberries, blueberries, chestnuts, cherries, bananas, oranges …).

It is recommended:

- To vary the sources of fiber by eating fruits, vegetables, legumes and involving them in grain products;
