What is anemia?
Anemia is a decrease in red blood cells. It is common found in children between 6 months and 3 years of age, especially in children who have not received either iron prevention through a supplementary feeding with iron-fortified foods or supplements medicated duly communicated by the pediatrician.
Typically, children in the first year of life have a rapidly growing stores of iron being used for that purpose. If these are supplemented at the time, children are at risk of iron deficiency that lead to a condition called iron deficiency anemia. The teenagers because of menstruation and also the rapid growth are likely to have anemia.
Why did it happen?
The most common is anemia caused by iron deficiency. Other causes include: infectious diseases, deficiencies in vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency, poor nutrition and parasitic diseases. The use of whole cow’s milk and other animals under 1 year may lead to increased red blood cell loss in the intestine.
What are the consequences?
The most important consequence of iron deficiency, especially if it has reached the level of moderate anemia, is the commitment of present and future intellectual development of children. Anemia can be avoided
* Promoting breastfeeding
* Do not administer commercial cow’s milk before one year of life.
* From the sixth month of life, offering a varied diet.
* Receiving iron supplements when the doctor tells you to and as long as necessary.
* Go to their routine well-baby and the pregnant woman.

What a child should eat foods to prevent anemia?
It is appropriate to breastfeed, since iron is better absorbed from the milk of the mother. Should be varied but should not miss:
1 .- Chicken Meat, fish and beef.
2 .- Legumes such as lentils, chickpeas, beans (your iron is used if accompanied by orange juice).
3 – Green leafy vegetables (your iron is also used if accompanied by orange juice).
4 .- fortified cereals, fortified milk and yogurt
What should you avoid?
1.- Commercial cow’s milk before the year.
2 .- To persist with predominantly dairy food and dairy industry after year.
How is it diagnosed?
It is suspected by the nutritional history.
It is common for your pediatrician, also prompted laboratory studies.
